Make Music Vancouver *TODAY*

by Carmen Cruz

Get ready to release your inner musician!!!

Make Music Vancouver is a free and live musical celebration that takes place each June 21, the longest day of the year.  TODAY, public spaces across Yaletown and Gastown will become impromptu stages for over 350 free concerts. The bonus? You're encouraged to be a part of the festivities! If you're not quite musically inclined (I feel your pain), feel free to listen (or dance!) to your heart's content.

Everything kicks off at 5PM. Want more info? Go HERE.

Enjoy.

Photo Diary: Arrow, Mexican Food and Mr. Sandwich Head

by Carmen Cruz

A Week In Pictures.

The WB show 'Arrow' is in full production mode and the hours can be super long. Lucky for us, the directors periodically park food trucks on the lot for an all you can eat shin-dig. Nice.

Arturo's Mexico To Go (Food Truck). See? There's Arturo himself!!! :)

Arturo's Mexico To Go was BEYOND amazing! You've gotta try the Tacotino.

The TV show 'Arrow' takes place in Starling City. The new Starling City police cruisers were just delivered to our lot. Looks like these cops roll in style  *insert impressed whistle sound here*.

Mr. Sandwich Head (or so I like to call him) was hanging out in Yaletown over the weekend for the 'Candy Town Celebration'.  The streets were filled with vendors hocking the same crap, food carts with overpriced carnival-style treats, and there were a total of 3 free family activities (with massive lineups, of course!). Overall, it was meh.
Either way, Mr. Sandwich Head says 'Haaaaaaaayyyyyy'.
How bad would it suck if the person who wore this headpiece before you had had a massive Caesar salad? *gag*

This is why I don't eat beef jerky. All natural ingredients? Yeah right.
DO NOT EAT!

Fashion's Night Out in Vancouver ~ TONIGHT

by Carmen Cruz

For the first time in Vancouver, Fashion's Night Out will be taking over the downtown core.

The evening kicks off with a fashion show at CBC's Studio 40 (700 Hamilton Street), with doors opening at 5:30pm (I've gotta be honest with you here. If you're not there at that time, you're pretty much not getting in). The fashion show starts at 6PM and lasts about an hour. It'll feature a few local designers and a bunch of big name international designers/companies.

After the show, you're encouraged to shop to your hearts content. Over 90 beauty and fashion retailers in the downtown core will be offering sales and specials and even restaurants are getting in on the action with 'fashion-inspired theme menus'.

Alberni Street and Robson Street will be the heart of all the retail action, with several nearby areas still offering you some solid deals (Yaletown and Davie Street).

If you're in a dancing mood later on tonight there will be an afterparty at Bar None, but heads up, you'll need a ticket to get in.

You can get all the info you need at Fashion's Night Out Website.

At this very moment I'm doing some lunges and stretches, getting all limber for tonight's shopping mayhem.

See ya there ;)

The Bestest Of Vancouver ~ Vancouver says farewell to.....

by Carmen Cruz

It's the end of an era....

Section 3 is one of my favourite places to hang out at. Despite the fact that it's in Yaletown, the scene here is laid back and completely unpretentious. Arturo (my favourite bartender) makes the BEST mojito's in the city and J (the manager) gives amazing and friendly service - ALWAYS.
Their 'Nerd' sign has to be one of the most photographed bar signs in Vancouver (It's actually my wallpaper on my computer).
And their food! It's a little known fact that the food here is 'off the hizzle'.  They've got stuff like....

Pulled Pork and Goat Cheese Poutine
House-cut Kennebec Fries, Port Demi-Glace
$12.95

Ultimate Veggie Burger
Whole Wheat Bun, Alfalfa Sprouts, Cucumber, Avocado, Roasted Garlic Mayo, Goats cheese
$14.95

BBQ Baby Back Ribs
Four Cheese Macaroni and Coleslaw
$21.95

**They've also got gluten free options. Nice!**

I've had my birthday, going away and welcome back parties, all at this lovely place. I've even spent a new years eve here.
Now... it's closing it's doors for good. The owners have decided to sell the place and move on to new adventures. You have about a month to head out to Section 3 and take advantage of their amazing drinks, yummy food and awesome atmosphere. I have to say that I'll genuinely miss this place.

Maybe, if you're lucky, one of the staff there will tell you the story behind their 'nerd' sign and how they decided to name the restaurant 'Section 3'. (Let's just say it involved being sued by Robert De Niro. True Story).

As of September 23, Section 3 will be no more.

Sad.
It truly was one of the Bestest Of Vancouver.
