What's the DEAL?????

by Carmen Cruz

I'll admit it. I'm kinda hooked on the iPhone game called 'Words With Friends.' It's exactly like   Scrabble and you can find your friends (through their username) and challenge them to a game, OR you can just play a perfect stranger (the game finds a random opponent for you). I've ended up playing people from New York, to London, to Hawaii and everywhere in between.
So this is my question: What's the deal with all the WEIRDOS playing this game??? You see, you have the option of chatting or making comments to the people you play. I usually make comments of something along the lines of 'Nice move!' or, 'Wow. Didn't see that coming.'... you know, stuff like that. Other players will comment in the same manner, but once in a while, you get an extreme weirdo. I've had everything from 'I bet you're hot. What do you look like and what are you wearing' (to which I responded, 'T-shirt with yellow armpit stains and MC Hammer pants. Oh! And I'm also waxing my 'stache right now.') to, 'Hurry up and make a move you whore.'
Yeah. People can get weird or bitter, but THIS ONE really takes the cake! This is an actual picture (of my phone) of a conversation that took place through the game 'Words With Friends'. My opponent's comments are in green and mine are white (I smudged out my username... for privacy reasons. Just keepin' it real ;). The whole conversation is both pathetic and yet hilarious all at once. See???

Note the user name of the person I played. If you're out there, you've got some serious issues. Oh! And you sincerely SUCK at this game. Invest in a dictionary. I believe there's an app for that. Tee hee! ;D

Just thought I'd share.

Just in case you don't regularly check out the 'Free Single Of The Week' on iTunes (like I do....NERD!), today's download is the bees knees.
It's from a British band called 'Graffiti6' and they've just released their debut album called 'Colours' (notice the spelling??? Nice). They've got this soul / pop/ funk sound. If you like Jamie Lidell you'll enjoy this. The tune is called 'Free' and here's what it sounds like:

The guy kinda looks like Nick Lachey from 98 Degrees... no? But don't hold that against him.

Sooooo, you likey? Download it off iTunes for NADA today :)

Enjoy!

Cat Soup!!!

by Carmen Cruz

I'm a HUGE fan of the Show 'The Soup' on E!

The program is hilarious, cheeky as hell, and is hosted by MAJOR hottie Joel McHale.

I stumbled across this spoof of the show today, featuring the ALWAYS awesome David Cross. If you're a cat lover, you'll find this both hilarious, disturbing, and painfully cute.

Personally, I'm not a fan of cats, but I still found this video to be worth a watch or 3.

SONGS OF THE WEEK!!!

by Carmen Cruz

Here's some musical deliciousness for your ears.

Lauryn Hill & Bob Marley ~ Turn Your Lights Down Low. These two make beautiful music :)

Lil Wayne ~ How To Love - I might have chosen this song before, but what can I say? I just can't get enough of it!

Lily Allen ~ LDN - Such a wicked song. Funny story. My nephews (they're 7 & 8 years old) love this song. The problem is, the only line they can remember is '...then I see it's a pimp and his crack whore'. FAIL!!!

LMFAO ~ Sexy & I Know It - Cause this tune is awesome and you know it... Catchy. Bouncing shlong in video is kinda awkward though.

Duck Sauce ~ Barbra Streisand - FUN!!!! Cool cameo from the drummer from The Roots!

Enjoy!

Why won't this man GO AWAY???

by Carmen Cruz

He's baaaaaaack!

One of the biggest douchebags on TV is back, with yet another crappy infomercial you can't stop watching. Vince is now trying to peddle you a 'Schticky'. This video makes me want to punch him in the throat, and yet I can't look away...

Ugh. Why do I torture myself (and you)??? Sorry.

To make it all better, here's a hilarious remix of his old 'Slap Chop' commercial. This will have you saying 'You're gonna love my nuts' around the office all day today.

You're welcome!

Internet control? No thanks.

by Carmen Cruz

Some of your favourite sites are taking a hiatus today. Why? In protest of SOPA /PIPA. What's that,  you ask? Well, it's an anti-piracy bill they're trying to pass in the US. It all comes down to internet censorship/ control. Even Facebook, Twitter, Soundcloud and Blogs would be affected if this law is passed. Here's a helpful video to explain what it's all about.

PROTECT IP / SOPA Breaks The Internet from Fight for the Future on Vimeo.

The US is most affected by this right now, but it's just a matter of time before, like a bad rash, this spreads.

So a special thanks to Wikipedia, fark.com, odditycentral.com, and all the other sites out there in internet land who are taking the time to stand up against these censorship boards.

Hey SOPA/PIPA... guess what?    :P

Could music videos soon have age ratings??

by Carmen Cruz

UK prime minister David Cameron is now pushing to to have age ratings and warnings listed/posted on music videos. He says, " he wants new regulations to stop "the commercialisation and sexualisation" of childhood" (thanks for the quote NME!).

At first I was all...WHAT?!?!?! But now, as I think about it more carefully, I kind of agree. You see, I'm an aunt, and if my two nephews were to sit and watch... say... this music video with me, they'd have a lot of questions. They're at that age where they question EVERYTHING.

At the same time, I'm also at a point where I'm tired of how 'PC' everything has become. There's    always SOMETHING offending SOMEONE out there. For example, remember when Saturday Night live used to be... FUNNY???? I'm talking about the days when Eddie Murphy, Molly Shannon, and even Will Ferrel were on the show (obviously, this is a huge span of time). Now, everything is just so... censored and 'sensitive'.

Hmmm... this is a toughie. Thoughts?

Trying out the Tumblr thing.

by Carmen Cruz

I'm trying out Tumblr. I'm pretty new to it, so if you have any tips or suggestions, please let me know!
Here's the link to my personal page, if you're interested: http://carmencruz.tumblr.com/
I figure I'll start out by posting a new song of the day every day, and then slowly go from there. This internet stuff can be pretty confusing, no?

Justin Timberlake to play Elton John???

by Carmen Cruz

It's official, Elton John has a movie about his life in the works. The biopic is reportedly going to be called 'Rocket Man' and Elton is working with the author of 'Billy Elliot' (Lee Hall) on the script.

In a recent interview, Elton said that his number one choice to play him in the movie is.... Justin Timberlake!!! Why, you ask? "Because played me before in a David LaChapelle video of 'Rocket Man' and was superb."

Here's the video in question. Sadly, it's the best version of it that I could find. Thoughts???

U2's Bono busking in Ireland

by Carmen Cruz

Footage of Bono busking in Dublin over Christmas has been popping up all over the net. The superstar was joined by  singers Damien Rice and Glen Hansard. *Mental Note: Must go to Dublin*
The trio were helping others get into the holiday spirit by singing Christmas carols. How awesome is that? BUT... the funny thing is that police showed up and tried to get Bono and the boys to 'move along'. The cops didn't recognize him! Buuuuurn.
Ah well.. here's a couple videos of the amazing street busking moment.
Oh how I adore Bono!!!!

The YUCK Trifecta

by Carmen Cruz

Imagine this...
While you're right in the middle of moving, you're punched in the stomach with a brutal flu. You're completely knocked out, sweating, sleeping and coughing. Then, to add insult to injury, you find out that you won't have cable or internet until the first week of January (did I mention that this is all happening during the second week of December?). Ladies and gentlemen, this is what I call the Yuck Trifecta. Moving, surrounded by taped up boxes, sick, and without any form of entertainment. This was the hell I went through last month.
Just moments ago, I finally had my cable and internet hooked up. I'm sitting in front of my computer with my TV blasting, trying to take it in all in at once. I'm like a doe eyed kid on Christmas day.
Lucky for me, I was healthy enough to spend Christmas with friends and loved ones (my first Christmas away from my familia!) and I had an amazing time. At the moment, I'm still recovering from an insane New Years house party.  Hola 2012!!!!
Here's to an amazing year filled with love, happiness and success... even if the world is going to end... ;D.
I'm baaaaaaaaaack!

You've Sunk My Battleship.

by Carmen Cruz

Remember the board game Battleship? Well now there's a movie about the game. The cast lineup includes Liam Neeson, Rihanna, and Alexander Skarsgård (just to name a few).
I've personally never played the game, but... meh. Either way, the trailer has been leaked.

You can expect to see the movie in theaters next summer.
